GEO, or Generative Engine Optimization, is the newest kid on the block in online visibility. Where SEO spent decades chasing a spot among ten blue links, GEO is about something else entirely: being included in the answer an AI system like ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google's AI Overviews gives someone. Not being linked to, but being cited.
Sounds new. And partly, it is. But at DYKZ we believe the core of good visibility, whether through Google's classic results or an AI-generated answer, has stayed the same for years: a technically flawless website with clear, valuable content. GEO isn't a replacement for SEO. It's an extra layer on top of the same foundation.

Plenty of agencies act as if GEO is an entirely new discipline, with its own rules, its own tools and its own price tag. To some extent that's true: AI systems "read" a website differently than a classic search engine does. They break a question down into smaller sub-queries, search the web for each one separately, and stitch the most useful fragments together into a single answer.
But the basic question an AI system asks of your website is almost word-for-word the same question Google has been asking for years: is this page fast, technically sound, clearly structured, and does the content actually answer the question? If you already have solid technical SEO in place, you're not starting from zero when GEO enters the picture.

Technical SEO: still the foundation
An AI system crawling the web ultimately uses the same kind of crawlers and signals as a classic search engine. Load speed, clean and valid HTML, a logical page structure, a working sitemap: that's not "old SEO that no longer matters". It's still how any system, human or machine, has to understand what's on your page and whether it's worth using.
In fact, the messier and slower a website is, the more likely an AI system will simply skip it, because extracting the content just takes too much effort. Speed and technical quality haven't become less important because of GEO. If anything, they've become a kind of entry ticket: without a technically healthy website, you don't even get close to an AI citation, let alone a good Google ranking.
That's why DYKZ still builds according to the same recipe that has worked for years: flawless, W3C valid HTML, optimised images, no unnecessary plugins or CMS layer slowing everything down. Not because it happens to also work well for GEO, but because it was always the right foundation.
Your content
On-site SEO and GEO are, at their core, asking your content the same question: do you give an honest, complete, to-the-point answer to what someone wants to know? The difference is mainly in the stage where that answer appears. With classic SEO, that's a results page with a title, a link and a small snippet of text. With GEO, it's a few sentences a language model summarises, in its own words, from multiple sources at once.
That changes how you should write. An AI system would rather pull a clearly defined answer from a paragraph than have to interpret a vague, wordy text. Short, concrete answers to concrete questions, clear headings that contain the question itself, and facts that check out: that works better for a language model and for a visitor in a hurry alike. That's no coincidence — it was always good on-site SEO.
Where it does get new: are you still writing for your visitor first and foremost, or are you secretly "prompting" for a language model instead? At DYKZ the answer stays the same as it's always been. Write for the human asking the question. In the end, a language model still prefers to cite the source that gives the clearest, most honest answer — not the one trying hardest to sound "optimised".
Structured data: the shortest path to understanding
One element does gain noticeably more weight within GEO: structured data, i.e. structured markup via schema.org. Think of JSON-LD blocks that explicitly state what a page is (an article, a product, a set of frequently asked questions), who the author is, and how the page relates to the rest of the site.
For an AI system, that saves a lot of guesswork. Instead of having to infer a page's meaning from running text and layout, the system can pull it directly from the structured data: this is a question, this is the matching answer, this is the organisation behind it. That doesn't necessarily make a page more attractive to cite, but it does make it easier and more reliable to interpret. And that matters.
That's why DYKZ deliberately applies Article, BreadcrumbList and FAQPage markup on pages like this one. Not piling on schemas in the hope something sticks, but adding structure that's already logically present in the content. Structured data is a tool for being understood faster, not a trick to game the rules.

A whole cloud of new terms has sprung up around GEO: AEO (answer engine optimization), AIO (artificial intelligence optimization), LLMO (large language model optimization), AI-SEO — and there's probably another acronym coming tomorrow. To be clear: there is currently no single, widely accepted definition that sharply separates these terms from one another. In practice they're largely used interchangeably, especially by agencies eager to sell a shiny new service package.
That's exactly where DYKZ wants to stay cautious. Not every new term represents a genuinely new, separate discipline you need to buy separately. For the most part, GEO comes down to doing the same fundamental work well: fast, technically sound, clearly structured and honestly written. The term is new. The underlying work, largely, isn't.
Even Google itself draws that line explicitly by now: in its own documentation on optimising for generative AI features in Google Search, the company states that optimising for the generative AI search experience is, at its core, still SEO. That's precisely the view DYKZ has held for a while: not a separate hype strategy bolted onto your existing visibility work, but one coherent approach where technique and content form the base, and GEO follows as a logical consequence rather than a whole new project.
Technical GEO check
Does your website load blazingly fast, is the HTML clean and valid, and does the most important structured data (Article, FAQPage, BreadcrumbList) sit on the right pages? Then you've largely already covered the technical side of GEO, simply because it was already the foundation of good SEO.
Content GEO check
Does every important page give a clear, self-contained answer to the question a visitor — or an AI system on that visitor's behalf — is asking? Then you're not chasing a trick, you're producing exactly the kind of content both people and language models like to cite.
